The author was minister, public school principal, and farmer as well as scribe for the community. He was born in Scotland, raised in Canada, then lived in Virginia and Florida after finishing college. Was a friend of the late Douglas Southall Freeman, among other notables. The columns cover the years from 1919 to 1957.
