Why we need wholesome food and some exercise... |

"You can't _________________(fill in the blank) until you've cleaned up your plate!" How many of us grew up that way? We would eat more than we wanted so we could go play, or even have desert...which meant eating even more, or whatever. Today as more and more people are eating out, we get portions which are too big, too full of the wrong kind of fat, too full of unhealthy processed foodless food. Food that makes us fat, food that makes us sick years later and do not give us the energy we need, or make kids hyperactive and difficult to teach. What we eat eat at home may not be any better. Junk food begs us to buy at the end of almost every supermartket shelf. We attempt to correct with artificial fats, sweeteners, & colorings which make matters worse, not better. It is no wonder that we here in the USA have an ever higher percentage of obesity, children included. We have more diabetes, cancer, allergies, & heart disease than most other countries. Yes, our life expectancy is improving, but who calls that living when the average adult may spend their last years in a nursing facility of some sort! We have turned ourselves unwittingly into garbage cans. The garbage comes out too often as violence, pornography, crude language and behavior. We are role models, like it or not. This is what our children are learning to like. To add insult to injury, many of us sit at computers most of the day and in front of the TV at night or vice versa. Who has time to exercise these days? Not us, the commute takes too long and then we have to drive our kids. We have meetings. We just don't have the energy. Any excuse will do. If we don't eat right or get sufficient exercise, our brains refuse to work as they should, our thinking becomes unclear or clearly misguided. "Use it or lose it" applies to both mind and body, and too many of us are losing it. We feel put upon, angry or depressed...what's the use. Then too many of us are using cigarettes, alcohol , and/or drugs to cope. When the monkey is on our back, we can't see what is really happening, our reality is a lie but we can't see that either. Two years clean before the brains begins to function normally again. That's a fact. Two years at least before the nice person that you really are emerges once again, to treat & be treated with kindness, to be trusted and to trust again. Remember when? It is discouraging, isn't it...the paths so many of us are on, or have been on? Do you find yourself anywhere there? Would you like to change, but are not sure how?
